Angelique Songco

Short Bio
Angelique Songco served for five years in the Armed Forces of the Philippines before transitioning into the marine sector, where she worked for a decade as a diving professional aboard liveaboard vessels operating in the Tubbataha Reefs. During this period, she also co-founded a local non-government organization focused on marine conservation. Her involvement with Tubbataha began at the policy level, where she contributed to the development of key management and protection measures for the Park. Twenty-four years ago, she was appointed Protected Area Superintendent, a position she continues to hold today. Angelique holds a Master’s degree in Environment, Development, and Policy from the University of Sussex, England. She has been recognized twice as a Hero of the Environment by the World Wildlife Fund–Philippines. She is widely referred to as the “Mama Ranger” of Tubbataha for her long-standing role in the Park’s management.
